Immune Complex Nephritis Induced
Recent experimental studies have shown that the local b inding of circulating ant ibody with antigens existing or planted within the glomerulus can result in damage to this structure (1-6). In particular, chemically cationized proteins are able to bind to the glomerular basement membrane (GBM), act as a planted antigen, and induce in situ immune complex formation accompanied by marked proteinur...
متن کاملAltered Functional Properties of the Renal Glomerulus in Autologous Immune Complex Nephritis
The altered functional properties of the glomerular capillary wall in a model of autologous immune complex disease (Heymann's nephritis) was studied by electron microscopy using intravenously injected protein tracers of varying molecular weight. There was an increase in the permeability of the glomerular basement membrane (GBM) itself to large molecules; this change was focal and was found in t...
متن کاملHypocomplementaemic immune complex tubulointerstitial nephritis
We report a rare cause of rapidly progressive renal failure associated with low complement, positive ANA but negative anti DS-DNA. A renal biopsy demonstrated tubulointerstitial nephritis with positive immunoglobulin staining involving the interstitium and tubular basement membrane but glomerular sparing. A review of the literature and differential diagnosis are discussed.
متن کاملHyperlipemia in early stages of acute glomerular nephritis.
Marked hyperlipemia, involving all lipid fractions, is a regularly noted observation in the nephrotic syndrome (1). In contradistinction, the serum lipid concentration is believed to be almost unaffected in early stages of acute glomerular nephritis, even though one can find data in the literature that indicate that increased concentrations of serum cholesterol may rarely be noted (1-5). As a c...
متن کاملGlomerular antibodies in lupus nephritis.
Lupus nephritis (LN) remains the most common severe manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) characterized by the presence of autoantibodies (Abs) that are believed to play a central role in the pathogenesis of LN. Among more than 100 Abs reported in SLE, only a few display a direct glomerular binding capacity. Such antiglomerular Abs are detected at the onset of the disease before a...
